Former Raleigh mayor, current N.C. GOP chair and “public record heterosexual” Tom Fetzer is slick: dumping a late press release on the evening of NCSU’s boozy season opener. But he just couldn’t wait to drop his completely rational, non-controversial opinion that every school system in the state disregard the President’s planned remarks on Tuesday. Uh, why?
“This speech is clearly political in nature and has no place in the classroom,” Fetzer said in a prepared statement. “Our focus should be improving our students’ test scores, not the President’s approval rating.”
I can’t give him bonus points for using “socialist,” but otherwise Fetzer nailed it. I mean, come on, a black man encouraging kids to succeed in school?! He saw right through that canard. And don’t worry, I’m reasonably sure the idea of calling on schools to boycott a presidential address is justified by the Bible/Constitution.
