The circumstances leading to Wilmont residents being evicted have already been pretty well covered. Just like to add that it’s HILARIOUS the city totaled more than 30 pages of Wilmont’s code violations when the slumtenance man lived in the building!
But what happens now? On June 5th, David House coughed up the property to something called Wilmont Apartments LLC for a cool $1.65 million. Another $550,000 was thrown the LLC’s way via deed of trust, presumably for apartment renovation. I noticed four dumpsters in the back parking lot yesterday. The contractor’s website lets the curious know what they’re up to:
Currently the Wilmont is under going extensive renovations and will soon be a great place to live with updated Kitchens and Baths show casing beautiful ceramic tile, granite counter tops and hardwood floors.
You know what extensive rhymes with? It rhymes with saying goodbye to 2-bedroom rent in the $600s. Raleigh’s condo sales aren’t exactly slammin’, though, so Wilmont LLC is going to need one hell of an ad campaign to get back that $2+ million investment. Might I suggest pointing out the “charm” of the abandoned buildings nearby to augment the building’s historic status?
