Rethuglicans Re-Up on Brad Miller

Rethuglicans Re-Up on Brad Miller

bmiller Bullies tend to search out the weakest member of any group to pick on in order to minimize the chance of being fought back. So surprise, surprise, the anti-Obamacare patriots, fresh off booing the presidential motorcade, doubled down last Friday on Rep. Brad Miller (D-NC) as he met with a few constituents at his office on St. Mary’s.

As you may recall, Miller received a threat on his life last week from an angry caller demanding he town-hall it up while on break. But who would want to hurt Brad Miller? The Brad who took 64% of the vote three years ago. Genial, avuncular, boring Brad.  He’s like the electable Erskine Bowles!

Such is the heat of August. The four-term congressman who survived under the radar throughout most of the Bush administration has been magically transformed into some sort of cartoonish commie supervillain for daring to support Obama’s health care reform.  Those doing the transforming, dismayed at not having a chance to punk Miller in public because of some ’so-called’ death threat, took the next logical step: shouting at him across the street.

All your favorites from the Obama protest were there. Empty suit man. Dead baby tree man. Signs spelled incorrectly. And hey, there’s the “politics” guy at every party! Everyone had a blast, yelled some shit, then ran home to e-brag about protesting/complain about the media’s protest coverage. Sorry NCFreedom, but WRAL’s “angry mob” characterization wasn’t offensive or dismissive or even inaccurate. Those are words you use when describing hundreds of people who show up waving signs and chanting outside an elected official’s office, regardless of political affiliation.

These people aren’t going away. What I’m wondering, in light of the death threat, is the Homeland Security report warning of right-wing extremism still a hit job?
